11-15 Jan 2021
WHO IS IT FOR?
The music camp is intended for Intermediate and High School aged musicians, however some adults are enrolled
It is for Concert Band instruments, so strings are excluded. If in doubt please contact the camp’s organiser, Mark Douglas Ph 09 4595040, or email mailto:email@example.com
Am I Good Enough?
The camp is structured to cater to a wide range of music ability, about a reasonable level of skill is required, 2 years tuition or grade 3ish. More importantly, because of the intensive nature of the week, a good degree of stickability is essential.
At the Kokohuia marae in Opononi. It is expected that students enrolled in the course will stay on the marae, either camping on the grounds or sleeping in the meeting house.
The cost is $160 incl GST. This covers accommodation at the marae, food, practice venue, and music.
What to bring? Sleeping Bag and Pillow, casual clothes and shoes including something less casual for the concert, swimming costume, towel and toiletries. Your instrument + its accessories and music stand.
The daily schedule operates on a 2 hours on, 2 hours off basis. The first session starts at 6.00am (yes, that’s right!), the last ends at 8.30pm. The periods between are for eating relaxing, swimming, socialising. As a group we walk between marae and the practice venue at the Opononi Area School. At the end of the week a free concert is held for family and the local community.
The camp is 5 days long and finishes on Friday 15th with a concert at 7.00pm.
Rules and Regulations?
This is a schools based activity so similar rules apply, no smoking, no alcohol or consumption of illegal substances. Above all, respect yourself and others and the facilities we use.
Reporting Time? Report to the Kokohuia marae, , 47 Akiha St, Opononi, during the afternoon of Monday 11th Jan. The first briefing is at 5.00pm followed by dinner and first practice.
The camp must have parental help for the kitchen, the more help we get the easier it is. Come up and enjoy the Hokianga while your child attends the music camp. Please indicate on the enrolment form if you are happy to help out.
