About: Youth Orchestra is made of youth from all over Northland. With the conductor’s guidance, they explore and express messages the composers have hidden in their music, and wish to share it with their audience. By being a part of a large musical group, musicians will be able to express music in the way that they can't do by themselves. Seeing the audience enjoy their music, they get the best satisfaction and want to share more!
Conductor: Roger McClean
Skill level: Skill level required for orchestra is middle to advanced, around Grade 4 and above. We are currently very eager to have more young musicians join us, especially strings, oboe and bassoon. At this time, there is no official auditioning process. Anyone interested will be given a brief trial period before being accepted as a member.
Practices: Every Friday 7:15 pm to 8:30pm + extra rehearsals prior concerts
Performances: Every year, we have 2 concerts - mid year and end of year concerts, plus a few extra events - playouts at events, (recently at Town Basin for Xmas event) , national and international music festivals(in the past we have participated in festivals in Rotorua, Auckland, Brisbane etc), music camps (usually around Easter holiday). We mainly play classical music, but we also play movie theme songs (Lord of the Ring, Pirates of Caribbean, Forrest Gump, Greese, etc), jazz, modern, etc
