Tena koutou musician and musician supporters,
Now that Term 4 has got underway we are rapidly heading to the end of the year and there are a few things to draw your attention to:
Sistema musicians featured in the Advocate in a story on a photography exhibition by NorthTec students of Sistema musicians and their whānau.
My first experiences of Whangarei Youth Music were scary to say the least. I was new to the area, had started at Whangarei Boys' High School in 2007 as a Year 11 student, and was unsure of what to expect. The thought that I might find a family there did not even cross my mind. And boy was I surprised to find just that. Needless to say the Youth Music family adopted me from the get go. I joined both the Concert Band and the Orchestra and my love for music was nurtured in both groups.
Now an adult I have returned to Youth Music as so often happens with WYM participants, with a need to ensure that my experience is reproduced time and time again. The unique blend of social interaction and music making is what we provide with the needs of our Youth at the heart of every decision we make. The vice-presidency is a Bonus on top of the huge amount fulfilment I get from seeing the young people grow into well rounded musicians.
Whangarei Youth music made it to National Radio. The full interview is on this link
